The sun hereeeeeee!

Accessorize your accessories!

A long time ago, I asked my followers what they wanted to see from this blog. A few people voted on sites/stores selling unique, die-worthy items, so I thought this would be the perfect start!

Society 6 is an online store that promotes artists and their work by placing their art on products like iPhone cases, t-shirts, laptop skins, art prints, and more! (Sort of like Threadless) When I first discovered this site a few months ago, I was addicted! I couldn’t stop scrolling and drooling over the endless pages of beautiful artwork and photography. This site is the reason I desperately want an iPhone. :( If only they made cases for Androids!

I especially wanted to share this store with you all because I’ve ordered from them myself. I ordered a Wolverine case for my boyfriend, and he’s still madly in love with it (see below!). Their shipping was standard and took about a week. The cases are made by casemate and are relatively thin, so don’t expect too much protection. (We all know beauty comes with the price of pain!) They do, however, work well for protecting against scratches.

So if you’ve been tired of plain iPhone cases and dying for some personalization, check out Society 6! If you’re still hesitant to buy from the site or have questions about their iPhone cases, shoot me a message in the ask box and I’ll try my best to answer them. :)

Until next time!

*disclaimer: I was not paid or asked to promote this online store, although I wish I was. LOL.

OOTD.

It’s always challenging to want to get dressed on a rainy day.

Breaking the bank? Here are some money saving tips!

Before college, I was on a daily allowance of five dollars. How I survived with five dollars a day, I’ll never know. But I did survive and I even had extra money to shop once in a while! Now that I’m in college, money is getting scarcer, but a fashionista like me can never stray too far from shopping! If you can’t stay away from spending, here are some tips on how to spend more wisely.

1. Sales are your best friends.
You should never be ashamed or too embarrassed to shop in the sales section. Every time I go shopping, I find a dress or shirt that I’m completely obsessed with, but I can’t afford. As heartbreaking as it is, I usually step away and wait a week or two for it to go on sale. Most of the time, the item is still there, and it’s at least five dollars cheaper. So all you really need is patience!

Of course there are also end of season sales and before/after holiday sales to look out for too! It’ll be a little troublesome digging through messy piles and fighting off the hoards of people in line, but at least you’re saving some money!

2. Become a coupon queen/king!
Sales are great, but sometimes they just don’t cut it. That’s when the coupons roll in! I can’t tell you how much money I’ve saved from coupons alone. Before going to the mall or buying something online, check their site for coupons. If there aren’t any, there are always secret coupon codes online. Just google the store’s name and “coupon code” or “promo code” and there’ll be plenty of sites with coupons ready for you to use. My personal preference is retailmenot.com.

And if that’s not enough, subscribe subscribe subscribe! Subscribe your e-mail to your favorite stores for early news on sales and secret coupons! A lot of stores offer free shipping or 10% off just for signing up. If you don’t want to deal with all the constant notifications filling up your personal e-mail’s inbox, you can make a filter to place them in a different folder or make a separate e-mail account just for your subscriptions!

3. Know what you want and what’s right for you.
Whenever I shop, I go by the saying “If you really want something, you won’t second-guess it.” Sure, I find myself going back and forth on my decisions, but at the end of the day I remind myself that if I had the willpower to give it up, I didn’t really want (or need) it.

I know many of you love to keep up-to-date on the current trends but keep in mind that most are fads. Here’s a little something I learned from my textiles class: “All fashion ends in excess.” I can’t even count all the times I’ve wasted money on something I’ve only worn once and is now collecting dust in my closet. Try to get items that are classic enough that they won’t go out of style, but are still “you” and special enough to be out-of-the-ordinary.

4. Sell your old clothes!
Speaking of that dust-collecting pile of clothes, what are you going to do with it? Last summer, I found out about consignment stores. It was time for me to clear out my closet for college, but I also needed money to shop for new clothes, so I googled consignment stores around my area and that was that! There are chain consignment stores like Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange that will buy your clothes for a season, especially if they’re in style. I sold four bags of clothes from my middle school and early high school days and ended up with $68! Not bad at all considering I wouldn’t put them to any other use!

If you’re feeling generous and want to save up some good karma, try donating your clothes to a good cause. You won’t be getting any money for it, but you will gain the self-satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping others!

5. Shop at thrift stores!
Vintage shopping is becoming unbelievably popular these days, and with good reason! The clothes are super cheap and you’ll most likely find special pieces that you know another girl or guy won’t be wearing too. It definitely takes a little work but it’s really rewarding to find that one piece you’re raving about. Try to go with some friends while you shop, it’ll make the experience a lot more fun and productive: divide and conquer! I’ve found some awesome shirts, bags, and even blazers while shopping at thrift stores, and each trip never cost me over $20!

If you’re daring and have some skill in DIY projects, shopping at thrift stores is a great way for you to experiment with your clothes. If the sizes are too big, you can alter them to the perfect fit. You can also fix them up and add little details like buttons or studs to give them a fresh new look!

6. Shop in advance!
It never hurts to plan ahead. If you follow fashion week, you know that fashion is always a season or more ahead. Why not shop with the same mindset? Instead of buying what you need now, start checking out what you’ll need later on. Chances are it’ll be a lot cheaper too since stores know it’s not in practical to be wearing swimsuits in the winter or peacoats during the summer, so they’ll sell the items for less.

7. Accessorize!
You don’t always have to buy new clothes to make new outfits. Buying jewelry, hats, bags, scarves, or even make-up can add a whole new spin to your closet! Not only is it cheaper to buy these items, but you can use them for a variety of outfits, not just one!

8. Cut back on other spendings.
If you love food but you don’t cook, you probably find yourself eating out a lot. Maybe you’re a coffee addict and you have to have you daily fix of Starbucks. While dining out and Starbucks are wonderful things to have in your life, keep in mind that the spendings add up. Keep track of what you buy by saving your receipts and adding how much you spend a week, month, or year! You’ll know what to prioritize and what to cut back on.

I hope these tips help that piggy bank and wallet of yours! If you have more ideas on saving money, feel free to message me!

Holiday dress guide!

It’s not a party without a holiday dress! But with so many dresses to choose from, how can you possibly decide what dress will put you at the center of attention? Well first, you gotta figure out what type of dress you’re going for!

There’s nothing wrong with being cute, especially in these dresses. You steal the spotlight in your own little coy way. Bows, ruffles, and flowy chiffon will definitely catch an admirer’s eye from afar. (The majority of these dresses are from Modcloth because I don’t like mixing mannequins with actual models. It just looks weird to me, haha.)

Thinking about revealing your inner vixen this holiday/new years? What better way to show a little sexy (without showing too much) than with a bold color or body hugging silhouette? Don’t be afraid to try a structured dress instead of a tight dress that could be unflattering. Keep in mind that you don’t always have to show skin to look hot.

So Christmas is over and it’s time to glam up for New Years! Metallic and sequined dresses should definitely be on your list, but try to find a dress that best fits your shape and your night! A dress that has some movement will be fun to dance in whereas a fitted dress would be better suited for small party.

Holiday gift guide!

Still deciding what to get your friends, boyfriend, girlfriend for the holidays? Have no fear, Layers of Chiffon is here to make gift shopping that much easier! The list isn’t as extensive as I’d like it to be, but I really wanted to get this gift guide done since the holidays are nearing! If you’d like more gift ideas/sites, just send me a message and I’ll gladly tell you more gift ideas & get you plenty more sites for gifts. Happy shopping!

Get your girlfriend (or just your girl friend!) something she’ll be sure to love for many years to come. A knit bow headband and scarf to a gorgeous velvet loafer or oxford heel will make dressing up enjoyable for her (and extensive for you hehe). You can never go wrong with a dress, especially a belted dress. Wanna try something fun? Find some fun printed handbags or backpack! It’ll make a boring outfit pop!

Shopping for guys can be pretty difficult. After two and a half years of gift shopping for my boyfriend, I’m finally getting the hang of it. Boys love boxers, especially fun ones! Find some funny and unique printed boxers (animals, jokes, hearts!) and your guy will be wearing them all the time. Chukka boots are definitely growing in popularity these days. Not only are they stylish, they’re comfortable and can dress any outfit up. Is your guy an accessory kind of guy? A warm winter beanie, cool O’ Clock watch, or knit bow tie can be just the thing he wants to add a little something to his outfit without being too flashy. Tired of the same hoodie that he wears over and over? Go a little out of your budget and get him a nice coat! Not only will he be warm, he’ll look good too!

If you’re gift shopping for someone who enjoys a good laugh, then these gifts will be perfect. Fun slippers make walking around the house a lot more exciting, and why not pair those slippers with a Christmas tree beanie? If your person happens to love baking, this cake pop kit will surely get them running for the kitchen. Frequent tea drinkers will absolutely love their tea submarine disperse their favorite tea everyday. For the artist? How about the Diana film camera? A Classic! Wallets can be a subtle conversation starter, especially this mustache wallet. Everyone will be asking where you got it!
